The main objective of the FIVDB Midwifery Institute is to develop skilled midwives through a three-year Diploma in Midwifery education.

About the Curriculum
Diploma in Midwifery is a three year institutional education program.
It is approved by the ministry of health and family welfare, government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh
These educational activities is completed through six semesters in 3 years as two semesters per year.
This educational program follows the curriculum formulated according to national standards and based on skills.
This course is recognized by Bangladesh nursing and midwifery council.
Student will have the opportunity to practice theoretical education in community.
To Gain practical experience and education in a certain number of health center under the supervision by trained teachers.
They also learn from their experiences including contacting other existing maternal health care provider.
Interested candidates will be able to study in B.sc course after completing the diploma course.

What does a Midwife do?
A midwife works with an attitude of service to mother and child care.
Her job is not just hospital or clinic. She works, at home, in the region, in any environment or circumstance.
She works to improve the health of a mother's pregnancy, childbirth and newborn
She gives health education of an adult woman especially, helps in reproductive health and development of the newborn baby.
Helps capable men and women to decide to receive family planning services.
She provides counseling and other services during maternal pregnancy, childbirth, neonatal development and beautiful family building.
Career Opportunities
In 2010, at the 65th General Assembly of the United Nations the Prime Minister of Bangladesh announced producing and deploying dedicated midwives as an attempt to have a permanent solution to the shortage of SBAs. Subsequently, the curriculum and the regulatory frameworks for the diploma midwifery education and mentorship programme were developed with support from the development partners. The curriculum has been designed to incorporate general courses (Science and English), foundation courses (such as anatomy and pharmacology) and professional courses (from newborn complexities to maternity experience). In September 2018, 55 education and training institutes (38 government and 17 private) had 1565 available placements (975 government and 590 private) to produce diploma midwives, while the government created 2996 midwifery service posts in 1733 primary healthcare facilities across the country. In 2018, MoHFW recruited 1143 licensed midwives and deployed them in 342 health facilities (Personal communications, MoHFW and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Success
So far 119 students have achieved Diploma in Midwifery from FIVDB Academic Site.
The students who have completed their course, they are certified by Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council.
After passing BPSC (Bangladesh Public Service Commission) examination, 61 Midwives are working in Government Hospitals as 2nd class employees.
There are 56 Midwives working in Rohingya camps, local and foreign NGOs, various hospitals and clinics.
A total 56 students of 5th and 6th batch currently studying Diploma in Midwifery Course.
